Product Overview

The 13511-64071 camshaft is the OEM-spec replacement camshaft for the Toyota 2C 2.0-litre naturally aspirated diesel fitted to the Corolla E10 (CE100 chassis). It restores correct valve timing after lobe wear, recovering the cold-start reliability, low-end torque and stable idle that the 2C is known for losing as mileage climbs. TOSEN AUTO supplies this camshaft forged from alloy steel with induction-hardened lobes, 100% inspected for runout and lobe profile, and shipped ready to drop into the cylinder head — no machining required.

Compatibility & Fitment

This camshaft fits the Toyota 2C engine as used in the Corolla E10 (CE100). The 2C is a 1,974 cc SOHC 8-valve indirect-injection diesel produced from the late 1980s through the 1990s. Confirm your engine code on the chassis plate before ordering — the closely related 2C-T (turbo) and the later 3C / 3C-E / 3C-T share the Corolla platform but use different camshafts with different lobe profiles. Ordering by vehicle model alone is the most common cause of a wrong part; always cross-check the OEM number stamped on the original camshaft’s first journal.

Material & Manufacturing

The 13511-64071 is forged from a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel blank, not machined from cast iron. Forging aligns the grain structure along the lobe profile, which is critical on the 2C because its flat-tappet valvetrain imposes high contact stress on each lobe flank. After rough machining, the lobes and journals are induction-hardened: a localized electromagnetic heating cycle hardens only the lobe surface to HRC 55–60 while the camshaft core stays tough at HRC 25–32. This hard-case / tough-core structure is what stops lobes from chipping under diesel combustion loads.

Front-end detail of the 13511-64071. Note the polished bearing journals and the clean lobe flanks — these are the surfaces that wear first on a high-mileage 2C.

Every camshaft is then finish-ground to the OEM journal diameter and lobe profile, and 100% inspected for: journal runout (< 0.04 mm total indicator reading), lobe lift against the master profile (±0.02 mm), surface finish (no grinding chatter or pitting), and straightness. A camshaft that fails any check is scrapped, not reworked — regrinding a diesel cam to an undersize is not acceptable for the 2C’s loading.

When to Replace the 2C Camshaft

The 2C is a workhorse diesel, but its camshaft lobes take the brunt of poor oil maintenance and extended drain intervals. Replace the camshaft when you observe any of the following:

  • Rough cold idle that smooths as the engine warms — a classic sign of lobe wear changing the running valve clearance. As the lobe loses lift, the valve opens late and closes early; cold oil magnifies the effect.
  • Ticking or knocking from under the valve cover — worn lobe profile no longer opens the valve fully, the flat tappet takes up the clearance noisily, and the tap speeds up with engine RPM.
  • White or grey smoke at startup — late valve timing on an indirect-injection diesel retards the effective compression ratio and delays combustion.
  • Progressive loss of low-end torque — the 2C makes its torque low; reduced intake lobe lift flattens the torque curve below 2,000 rpm.
  • Metallic debris in the oil or on the magnetic drain plug — advanced lobe or tappet wear; replace the camshaft and inspect every tappet and bearing before reassembly.

Installation Notes

  1. Measure bearing oil clearance first. With the old cam out, check each journal-to-bearing clearance with Plastigauge. Replace bearings if clearance exceeds the 2C service limit — installing a new camshaft on worn bearings will wipe the new lobes within weeks.
  2. Lubricate with assembly lube, not engine oil. Coat every lobe and journal with a high-ZDDP assembly lubricant for the first start. The 2C’s flat tappets need the extreme-pressure film during the critical break-in period.
  3. Set valve clearance cold after timing. Torque the bearing caps in sequence, set the timing belt on the marks, then set valve clearance to the factory spec (intake 0.20 mm, exhaust 0.30 mm, cold). Re-check after 1,000 km.
  4. Replace the timing belt and tensioner at the same time. A failed belt on the 2C is an interference event — it will bend valves regardless of a brand-new camshaft. Do the belt while the front of the engine is apart.
  5. Prime oil pressure before starting. Crank with the fuel cut solenoid disconnected until the oil light goes out, then start. This protects the new lobes during the first seconds.

Why Choose This Camshaft

  • Machined to the original Toyota 2C lobe profile — correct lift and duration for the 13511-64071 application, not a generic diesel blank.
  • Induction-hardened lobes and journals resist the high contact stress of the 2C’s flat-tappet valvetrain.
  • Forged alloy steel with a tough core, not a brittle cast blank.
  • Every unit is 100% inspected for runout, lobe profile and surface finish before dispatch.
  • Factory-direct B2B pricing from TOSEN AUTO — sample orders accepted, volume pricing for distributors.

FAQ

Q: Is 13511-64071 interchangeable with the 2C-T (turbo) camshaft?
A: No. The turbo 2C-T runs different valve timing and a different lobe profile. Always order by the OEM number stamped on your original camshaft.

Q: Does it include the timing gear?
A: No, the camshaft is supplied bare. Press your original gear onto the new shaft using the keyway alignment mark; do not mix gears between cams.

Q: Can I reuse my old bearings and tappets?
A: Bearings only if oil clearance is within spec. Tappets only if their contact faces are perfectly flat with no pitting — a worn tappet will destroy a new lobe. When in doubt, replace both.

Q: What is the MOQ for distributors?
A: Sample orders of 1–5 pieces are accepted for qualification. Distributor pricing applies from 20+ pieces.

Q: How is the camshaft protected in shipping?
A: Each camshaft is individually oiled, wrapped in anti-corrosion paper and packed in a rigid tube with journal protectors to prevent bending in transit.
