Nothing ends a road trip faster than a dead air-conditioning compressor. But replacing one is not as simple as picking “a compressor for a Honda” — the same car can use different compressors across years, engines and regional specs. The OEM part number is the only reliable identifier. This guide explains how to read it and order correctly.

Why the OEM Number Matters

A Honda Accord might use a 38810-RNA-014 in one market and a 38810-RNA-024 in another. Both bolt on, but they differ in pulley clutch, displacement or internal control valve. Fitting the wrong one means poor cooling, over-pressure cycling or a compressor that dies early. The number stamped on the compressor plate or printed on the original box is your ground truth.

Where to Find the Number

  • Compressor nameplate — most compressors carry a sticker or stamped plate with the OEM number and a serial number.
  • Vehicle parts catalogue — searchable by VIN.
  • Old invoice or box — if the compressor was replaced before, the previous invoice lists the number.

Compressor Types: What to Check

Check Why it matters
Pulley size and clutch Must match belt and engagement signals
Displacement Too large → pressure issues; too small → weak cooling
Control type Clutch-cycling vs variable displacement (VDC)
Refrigerant R134a vs R1234yf systems are not interchangeable
Compressor oil PAG oil type and quantity differ by unit

New Compressor or Reman?

Remanufactured compressors are cheaper, but their life depends on the cleaning and seal-replacement standard of the rebuilder. A factory-new compressor from a specialist supplier costs more and removes that variable entirely. For commercial fleets that cannot afford downtime, new is usually the economic choice.

Before ordering, flush the system and confirm the receiver-drier or expansion valve is also being replaced — a compressor fitted to a contaminated system will fail again within months, and that failure is not the compressor’s fault.

Ordering from TOSEN AUTO

Send us the OEM number from the compressor plate (for example 38810-RNA-014, 38810-RZY-A01 or 714978) with your vehicle model and year. Our team will confirm the exact unit, pulley configuration and refrigerant type before you pay — no guesswork.
